Youth Theatre Started in 2001, the Rackheath Youth Theatre is currently co-run by Deborah Dance and Laura Dignum. The classes take part during term time and incorporate acting, singing and dancing. Members of the group are given the opportunity to take part in the Rackheath Players shows and also put on a production once a year to showcase all their newly acquired skills. The youth theatre aims to build upon existing talents and broaden experience in all elements of theatre craft. In a friendly environment, the group provides a great place to meet new people and develop confidence. When not rehearsing for shows, the youth theatre continue their training sessions and also hold further workshops. Most recently these workshops consisted of human puppetry and Martial Arts. Whilst the youth theatre do focus on stage performances, some of our members have also given the chance to take part in a promotional film in a professional capacity. The Youth Theatre also provides opportunities for members to get involved who do not wish to act, as there are times when things have to be made, for example, costumes, props and scenery. During a performance week, makeup and hair, lighting, sound and backstage also need to be worked on. The Youth Theatre's most recent show was the Wizard of Oz which proved a great success, a lot of work was put in by all and the run up to the show included lots of rehearsals, music recordings using professional sound equipment, an onsite photo shoot and a costumed publicity walk. Some of the members also took chorus and speaking parts in the Rackheath Players production "The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree" in February 2008. Sessions are held on Thursdays during term time, from 6:30-7:30pm, D'elles, an optional dance class is run from 7:30-8:00pm, no prior dance experience required.
